Woodlake Real Estate

A great park on a great lake! A spectacular lakeside location, an exciting range of homes, recreational facilities unique to Woodlake (indoor/outdoor pools, tennis, fitness center, boating, bike trails), excellent public and private schools, quaint shops, churches, and day care located in the heart of the community, summer concerts and parties, and an array of highly active clubs and organizations are some of the many reasons why Woodlake remains one of Richmond's finest communities in which to invest your family's lives and dollars.

Voted 'Best Community in America' in 1990 by the Urban Land Institute and 'Number 1 Selling Community in Richmond' by Richmond Magazine in 2000, Woodlake is one of the most successful planned communities in the United States in bringing to life the planned community concept, serving as a model for other planned communities around the country, and offering one of the hottest products on the real estate market today. In 2002, Woodlake was again recognized by Richmond Magazine as one of Richmond's "20 Hot Places To Live." Reasons cited in the article for Woodlake's popularity included the serenity of the lake and its wildlife, the bike trails which offer safe biking, walking and jogging without having to be on streets, the diversity of its residents - young couples with children to retired folks, the diversity of choice in home styles and prices, and the amenities, including pools, tennis courts, and a fitness center.

Even before the first shovel hit the ground in 1984, the Woodlake concept was well researched and thought out by its developer, East West Partners, interviewing over 1000 people by phone and looking extensively at other planned communities nationwide.

"People wanted lots of facilities like the indoor/outdoor pool and biking/walking trails and more color, more brick, more picket fences, lots of grass, landscaping and flowers with basically a family-oriented, small town, all-American feel to it". To satisfy these requirements, the developers built a gazebo, small retail village, amphitheater, boat house and even went as far as to hire their own horticulturist for the planning and maintenance of all landscaping.

One of the biggest groups attracted to Woodlake is families from out-of-state who are relocating and looking for a sense of security, community and a family environment for their children to grow up in, in an otherwise unfamiliar area. Now nearing its final build-out interest in Woodlake is hotter than ever with mentions in numerous newspaper articles, magazines and books. Publications include Southern Living and The 99 Best Residential & Recreational Communities in America for Vacation Retirement and Investment Planning (Giese, Thornton, Kinnaman, 1992.)

In 2006, Woodlake will appear in Treasures of Virginia, a pictorial "coffee table" type book, published by Morgan & Chase Publishers, Inc. Both new and long-time residents truly do find Woodlake to be a treasure!
